BEAUTY

Welcome to the first step in your career as a professional makeup artist!

Southwest Makeup Institute’s immersive PRO Beauty MUA training focuses on the fundamentals of beauty makeup — making it ideal for new or somewhat experienced artists looking to specialize in the beauty, bridal, or fashion industries.

This 100 hour course serves as a prerequisite for our Film and Master courses as well - this is where your education journey begins!

SUPPORT NETWORK

Students of the Beauty training program have the opportunity to learn from guest speakers, highly trained professionals, and gain real-world application experience shadowing for fashion shows, editorial shoots, wedding expos, bridal parties, and more.

As an individual creative, building a client base and stellar reputation while trying to launch your career is a lot to manage - that’s why we set our students up with those tools for success before they graduate.

TOTAL IMMERSION

This 6-week comprehensive makeup artistry training covers everything from color theory, to application and sanitation, skin tone fundamentals, editorial application, proper tool use, and learning how to work from an artist’s perspective.

Outside of building the necessary skillset to practice as an MUA, this course dives into interpersonal skills as well, like: learning the industry standards and ethics necessary to succeed in these competitive spaces, developing your personal creativity, and establishing your style as an artist.

CREATIVE OPTIONS

Get a leg up - only students of SWMUI’s Beauty course are prepped for immediate practice as a professional MUA upon graduating. Students have the option of joining the beauty and/or bridal industries after certification, or continuing their education with our Film and Master programs.

The Beauty course serves as a prerequisite for the Film course, so graduates of the Beauty program can continue evolving and growing their practice while also expanding their client base by joining the film industry.

  • 1 hour of theory followed by demos, industry guest speakers, and immersive hands-on training and assignments.

Students replicate each look following instructor demos on each other during class time.

Sunday classes, referred to as “Clinic Days”, are studio time dedicated to hands-on practice.

It’s during this time that students are evaluated and graded by their instructors based on application ability, professionalism, brush use, product choice, workstation cleanliness, sanitation, and more. This ensures continuous improvement by gaining confidence in their skillset.

We take pride in teaching exactly what it takes to succeed as a Professional Makeup Artist in a practical work setting!
